Mahindra Thar OG Launched at ₹10.32 Lakh: More Power, New Features and Better Capability

Team ET September 23, 2026 3 min read

Mahindra has launched the new Thar OG in India at an introductory price of ₹10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). The latest three-door Thar retains the SUV’s unmistakable design and off-road character while bringing updates to its platform, suspension, engines, technology, comfort and safety.

The new Thar OG is positioned as a more refined evolution of the iconic SUV, with Mahindra focusing on making it better suited to both everyday driving and off-road adventures.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 11, 2026, while the introductory prices will be applicable to deliveries made until November 30, 2026.

New Platform and Improved Ride

The Thar OG is built on Mahindra’s new M_Glyde 4G platform, which has been engineered to improve stiffness and driving dynamics.

One of the major mechanical changes is the new rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link and Mahindra’s DAVINCI Damping technology with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD).

The SUV also gets Electric Power Steering, along with additional NVH damping aimed at making the cabin quieter and more comfortable during everyday driving.

Thar OG Gets More Off-Road Hardware

Despite the focus on refinement, Mahindra has retained the Thar’s off-road credentials.

The 4WD versions get an Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) along with dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes.

The SUV also gets terrain assist, giving drivers additional electronic assistance when tackling challenging surfaces.

This means the Thar OG isn’t just about a tougher-looking exterior; Mahindra has made several changes underneath to improve its capability when the road ends.

Three Engine Options

The new Mahindra Thar OG is offered with three engine choices.

The 2.0-litre mStallion TGDi petrol produces 119 kW and 330 Nm, while the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel develops 111.9 kW and 330 Nm.

There is also a 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel producing 87.2 kW and 300 Nm.

Depending on the variant, buyers can choose between manual and automatic transmissions, with both RWD and 4WD configurations available.

Familiar Thar Design, New Details

Mahindra hasn’t changed the basic silhouette that defines the Thar.

However, the Thar OG gets a redesigned grille, circular LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, LED fog lamps with cornering functionality and redesigned front and rear bumpers.

Higher variants get larger R19 alloy wheels, while two new exterior colours — Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue — have also been introduced.

Inside, the SUV gets Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery, along with a second-row armrest with cupholders and additional convenience features depending on the variant.

Six Airbags and Four Disc Brakes

Safety equipment has also been expanded.

The Thar OG gets six airbags, including four HPTS airbags for the front and rear occupants.

Other equipment includes front parking sensors, ESP 9.3 with rollover mitigation, a rear-view camera and four disc brakes on higher variants.

Mahindra Thar OG Price in India

The Thar OG starts at ₹10.32 lakh, while prices go up to ₹18.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec diesel 4WD automatic.

A New Chapter for the Three-Door Thar

The Thar OG doesn’t attempt to reinvent the three-door SUV. Instead, Mahindra has focused on improving the areas that matter when the Thar is used as an everyday vehicle, while adding more technology and hardware for off-road driving.

With its familiar shape, new platform, updated engines, improved suspension and additional safety features, the Mahindra Thar OG marks the next chapter for one of India’s most recognisable SUVs.
